Establishment of the Committee on International Scholarly Communication

1. Objective

Amidst the growing need for international coordination in the distribution of scholarly information, the Association has actively pursued the development of the Global ILL / DD, and the partnership with SPARC (Scholarly Publishing & Academic Resources Coalition). This Committee is aimed at continuing and further enhancing such projects associated with international scholarly communication.

2. Tasks

  (1) Development of the Global ILL / DD

• Liaison and coordination with the related bodies and institutions in U.S.A. and Korea, etc.
• Educational planning for improving the staffs' skills

  (2) Response to SPARC

• Liaison and coordination with the related bodies and institutions, including NII
• Publicity and advocate activities
• Promotion of SPARC journals

3.Organization

  (1) The Committee comprises the following members:

Shun Tutiya	Professor, Chiba University
Ikuo Sasakawa	Associate University Librarian, University of Tokyo Library
Hitoshi Hayase	Associate University Librarian, Tokyo Gakugei University Library
Yoichi Yamashita	Associate University Librarian, Nagoya University Library

  (2)The Committee has the following project teams for implementing specific projects.

• GIF (Global ILL Framework) Project
• SPARC/JAPAN Project
  
  Their organizations and tasks are defined separately.

4. Period

The term of the Committees shall be three years from the time of establishment. However it is extensible with the resolution of the General Assembly.
