Theme
Management of university library facing up to the corporatization of national universities
Purport

National university libraries will lost their legal basis which have been defined under Article 6 of the Law of the Official Requirements for the Inauguration of National School when the Proposed Law of National University Corporation will be endorsed by the Cabinet, and must manage to create their way of being with independent decision as part of university reform conducted by each university corporation. In other words, we have a big chance of the independent reform.

At the same time, university libraries have been planning their medium-term goals and plans before the corporatization of national universities scheduled for April 2004. Hot discussions focusing on organization and management of university library after the corporatization were made in the process of planning.

The goal of this symposium is to confirm each other how to realize new library functions suitable for a new environment on the Internet by means of organizational reform of libraries themselves and/or adjustment, coordination and unification with information related organizations in the university in order to exploit this big chance of independent reform. For this goal, the participants of this symposium are supposed to introduce the results of discussion made by each library, to learn the organizations and managing strategies of private university libraries, and to recognize the current status of national university libraries.

This symposium also aims to confirm that every library staff who constitutes an organization must polish his/her management sense and perform consciousness reform through the improvement in his/her capability of grasping challenges, and accomplish his/her accountability to those inside and outside of the university through the improvement in his/her capability of communication and presentation for setting up a new management organization.
