58th General Assembly held

picture of the Assembly The 58th General Assembly of the Japan Association of National University Libraries was held at Hiroshima on June 16, 2011 hosted by Hiroshima University Library.

After the opening address by Professor Motoo Furuta, President of JANUL, the greeting from Dr. Toshimasa Asahara, President of Hiroshima University and Dr. Kazuto Tominaga, Director of Hiroshima University Library. Before the proceedings, Dr. Keiichi Noe, Director of Tohoku University Library and Professor Minato Obuchi, Director of Ehime University Library were nominated for the chairperson and the vice-chairperson, respectively.

In the proceeding, firstly the president, vice-president, board libraries and auditors were introduced, and there was the progress report of the Association's activities after the 57th General Assembly last June, and report of the JUSTICE(Japan Alliance of University Library Consortia for E-Resources).

Then the following issues were discussed: the FY2010 financial results; the proposed business plans for FY2011 (such as, new active plans and key issues of the committees, subsidized projects for regional associations); the proposed budget for FY2010; and so on.

Next, Mr. Kengo Iwamoto, Director of Information Division, Research Promotion Bureau, MEXT explained the activities of the Subdivision on Science, Council for Science and Technology, the JUSTICE(Japan Alliance of University Library Consortia for E-Resources),the status of FY2011 special education and research budgets and the summary of the supplemental budgets,the 4th Science and Technology Basic Plan, save energy,the report of "FY2009 Survey of the Scholarly Infrastructures", and so on. And Dr. Jun Adachi, professor of Digital Content and Media Sciences Research Division, National Institute of Informatics (NII) explained the activities of Scholarly and Academic information and cooperation with the university library.

Further, the awarding ceremony of 2011 JANUL Award was performed. Shinshu University Library won the award for their activity of the "SOAR".

After that, workshops was held and the following two topics were discussed actively; A: JUSTICE(Japan Alliance of University Library Consortia for E-Resources) and an ideal method of the maintenance electronic resource in the future; B: risk management of the library at the time of the disaster.
