The 52nd General Assembly of the Japan Association of National University
Libraries was held at Nagoya University Toyota Hall on June 30,
2005 hosted by Nagoya University Library and 97 universities and
organizations were present.
This was the second general assembly after the Association was renamed
to the Japan Association of National University Libraries under the new bylaws
last April.
After the opening address by Professor Kazuhiko Saigo, President of JANUL,
the greeting from Professor Shin'ichi Hirano, President of Nagoya University
and Professor Yoshihito Ito, Director of Nagoya University Library.
First, there was the progress report of the Association's activities
after the 51st General Assembly last July.
Then the following issues were discussed: election of
the Directors, election of the Auditors; approval of the accounts and audit
in FY2004; approval of the proposed business plans for FY2005; approval
of the proposed budget for FY2005; and so on.
Next, Mr. Noriyuki Matsukawa, Director of Information Division, Research
Promotion Bureau, MEXT explained the current policy for scholarly
information promotion, budgetary request for FY2006, the policy for
the distribution of scholarly information, and the report of the FY2004
university libraries fact-finding survey.
Further, the awarding ceremony of 2005 JANUL Award was performed and Tohoku
University Library won the award on their achievement in the publishing of
"Basic knowledge of information search for the students of Tohoku
University" and the activities to support university curriculums.
In the afternoon, workshops was held continuously last year, the following
three topics were discussed actively: library management in the future;
problems concerning digital contents, such as e-journals;
toward a solution of the NACSIS-CAT/ILL crisis.
In the plenary session for summarizing the General Assembly, the details
of the three discussions were briefly reported and the report that
constant directionality for the solution of the NACSIS-CAT/ILL crisis
had been resolved, was acknowledged.
